Resource guide

Nowadays, the Camino Extremeño offers plenty of the necessary resources that enhance travelling experience: archaeological sites the traveler might encounter in his or her trek and freely visit, fortresses that, in ancient times, defended the Camino Extremeño, Interpretation Centers that help better understand the History of our Region, hostels in which the traveler can rest, sleep, have a meal as well and enjoy the very buildings themselves, etc.

 
INTERPRETATION CENTERS
 
There are three General Interpretation Centers along the Camino Extremeño  the traveler can visit to his / her convenience: Monesterio, Mérida and Baños de Montemayor. Moreover, eight Thematic Interpretation Centers exist, that offer precise information on specific topics. They are located at Fuente de Cantos, Zafra, Mérida, Aldea Moret (Cáceres), Cáceres el Viejo, Plasencia, Cáparra and Hervás. Experienced personnel and computers with further information can be found at these Centers.
  
TOURIST LODGES
 
Located at especially interesting key places (because of their History, Architecture, Natural Environment, etc.), and fully equipped to offer travelers the best possible experience, Tourist Lodges can also be found along the Camino Extremeño. In fact, there are nine of them on the Vía de la Plata, located at Fuente de Cantos, Puebla de Sancho Pérez, Zafra, Villafranca de los Barros, Torremejía, Garrovillas de Alconétar, Oliva de Plasencia, Hervás and Baños de Montemayor.
  
ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES
 
Found along the Vía de la Plata and its surroundings, several achaeological sites can be visited. They offer the usual services and equipment such as reception areas, parking areas, visitors circuits complete with temathic information, Interpretation Centers, Archaeological Centers, tours, etc. They can be found at Cáparra, Monroy, Ribera del Fresno, Fuente de Cantos and Cáceres el Viejo.
  
CASTLES
 
Along the Vía de la Plata, several majestic fortresses were built in strategic locations, watching over the lands of Extremadura, a territory which was permanently under conflict back in the Middle Ages. Two of these fortresses are worth mentioning in the northern province of Cáceres: the Castle of Mirable and the Castle of Marmionda in Portezuelo, both sides of the Vía, In the southern province of Badajoz, there are two noteworthy fortresses: Montemolín and Medina de las Torres.
